My first experience with the paranormal occurred when I was very young, about 3 or 4 years of age. Occasionally at my Grandma's house footsteps could be heard going up and down the staircase or walking around upstairs. When I asked who was up there my Grandma, or Thu as we called her, would say "Oh that is just Ferdinand, that is the ghost who lives here with me". Over the years many people heard "Ferdinand" walking about. Because she referred to "him" so casually and like it was no big deal I wasn't afraid of ghosts. I figured they were as real as I was, you just couldn't see them. Several years later my Thu moved into the home that was in my family for several generations. I would spend most of my summer vacation every year visiting with her and other family members who always seemed to be traveling through. Over the years several family members and friends reported seeing an old man in and around one particular part of the house. It was determined by us all, after hearing the detailed descriptions from people, to be my Great Grandfather who passed away in 1973. I used to sit in the bedroom he was seen in and talk to him. I wanted to see him but he never appeared to me. Ghosts, psychics, and most things paranormal have never been a taboo subject in my family. It was not uncommon for 3 or 4 generations of my family to sit and talk for hours about ghosts, reincarnation, or other unconventional topics. It was interesting to hear women (as I come from a very female dominant family about 90 %) from the ages of 15 to 85 discuss personal experiences and wonder about the unexplained. I hope to continue with my Thu's interest , eagerness, and acceptance of the paranormal. She became one with the universe in November 2007, but I'm sure her spirit guides and protects me.
